I fell in love with literacy the moment I started teaching. When I started teaching, it was the time of Guided Reading, focusing on the importance of comprehension and developing the love of reading. Although I didn't think this was the most effective way to teach reading, I always had a passion for teaching it. Then I learned about the Science of Reading and how a stuctured, systematic approach to teaching reading is the most effective.

Being trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach equipped me with the tools and strategies needed to effectively build children's reading and spelling skills. As soon as I began incorporating explicit instruction in foundational reading skills into my classroom, I saw a huge leap in my students' progress. I quickly fell in love with helping kids learn to read and loved seeing their confidence grow as they picked up new skills and became more independent.

What I found most fulfilling was watching children’s faces light up as they uncovered the magic of stories, conquered challenging words, and saw themselves reflected in the books they read.  I found my passion, and this is my way of fostering a love for learning - specifically literacy.
